David MacEnulty is a pivotal figure in the world of chess education, the owner of many “firsts” in the New York chess educational world. He discusses with Jim his experience with his start teaching kids in the Bronx, on through his illustrious career up until his recent retirement. They discuss what makes a great chess teacher (not always the best players), the chess tournaments he got his chess kids involved in, and how learning chess can reshape a kid’s life. They discuss a film based on his life starring Ted Danson (as David), Knights of the South Bronx.
